Las Posadas

WE JOURNEY WITH THE HOLY FAMILY THEN AND NOW
The Sisters of Saint Joseph Invite You to Pray Las Posadas Navidenas

Introduction
The “Christmas Inns” (Las Posadas Navidenas) is a nine-day religious observance meant to honor Mary and Joseph’s quest for shelter.  The intention of this ceremony is to commemorate the kindness shown to the Holy Family.  Immigrants, much like the Holy Family, brought this 400-year old Latin American tradition to their new countries. The Posada creates a dialogue between two “voices” – Joseph and Mary – the couple seeking shelter - and the Innkeeper, whose hospitality they beg.    On this daily journey in prayer, we bring with us one of  nine immigrants  making a journey from afar hoping to find a welcoming place of peace.      Use their stories to take note of the striking similarities between the Holy Family’s ordeal and the issues that face migrants today.  (Stories come from service records of Catholic Charities USA)    Each of the nine days we might  journey with the crèche figures of Jesus and Mary to different stations in our households until we/they reach the manger -  the resting place where Jesus, the Centerpiece of Christmas hope and love, enters the life of the world.

Each day, open a new Posada prayer in the links below.  .  Starting a few days late, pray daily through the Feast of the Epiphany.  Pray the stories of those today who seek a home, a place to be safe and secure.
